Library Södertälje | Reading with a feel-good factor

The new library, TIO14, is located adjacent to the city library and was designed to meet the needs of young visitors between the ages of 10 and 14. 'The need to meet each other, to socialise and simply to be here - with or without a book in hand - is fantastic for children,' says the library's director Helena Gomér, 'that's what we want to achieve.'

Project: Library Södertälje, Stockholm, Sweden

Architect: Askhagen arkitektkontor AB, Stockholm

Product: tretford INTERLIFE in colours 576, 579, 559

All of the materials used in the renovation had to meet the Södertälje library's stringent requirements. Especially the floor was important, because the young visitors must take off their shoes at the entrance. 'We intend our library to be an experience for all of the senses, and tretford carpet is very comfortable and feels good,' says architect Stefan Askhagen. 'The natural materials are perfectly suitable for our sustainable and intended target group. tretford is perfect, even for people with allergies.'

The colours 576, 579 and 559 were used for the colour combinations, because they harmonise well with the birchwood used and because the cut resistance of the tretford material makes the use of rounded and other shapes possible. In the small group spaces the relaxation benches are even upholstered with tretford carpet.
